At Converge, we have been helping construction companies shorten their concreting cycles with real-time data for almost five years. During that time we have had the privilege of working with some of the leading construction companies in the world. When we spoke to our customers about the efficiency of using real-time data, a trend emerged. Our alerts and live data are great, but often actions like striking formwork or tensioning were not happening until hours after critical strengths were reached.

The root cause was simple: our users were waiting for concrete to hit a critical strength before planning activities, but this often meant the site teams responsible for striking formwork or tensioning the slab were already deployed in other areas. For our customers, this meant critical actions were sometimes not happening until up to a day after they became possible.

These kinds of small delays have been accepted by the industry, but when totalled up across the tens, if not hundreds, of cycles, they result in weeks of lost progress. Concrete often sits on the critical path for a programme, so these delays were costing our customers time and time is money.

So how can Converge help?

To help combat this inefficiency, Converge have built the industry’s most advanced strength prediction engine, based on neural networks.

Within hours of concrete being poured we can predict exactly when a critical strength will be reached, several days in advance and with striking accuracy. This means that when your team are planning out key activities they can prioritise taking action precisely when needed. This helps your project save time and improve productivity. This insight is already helping teams shave valuable hours off each cycle, keeping programmes on track.

In order to achieve this, Converge uses the very latest in machine learning techniques to predict concrete strength. Our proprietary predictions engine combines local weather data, historical concrete curing data, and our real-time measurements from the pour. This gives us the ability to predict the time at which your concrete will reach strength with an accuracy of more than 95%, several days in advance of it being reached.
